About

AhoraCuba! is a weblog written largely by Cubans living in Cuba, and a handful of foreign students here as well. It is an effort to give non-mainstream information about our country and our daily lives here. There's a lot of misinformation in world media regarding life and people in Cuba, our problems, our happiness, and we figured a site like this could help to alleviate this situation. Our vision may not be the absolute truth about this island (no one's vision is), but is hopefully varied, fresh, original, interesting and - most of all - sincere.

As you read through the site, you'll see that the blog is not the product of a single person. We're sure you'd agree that it would not be fair. Instead, it is written by a small-but-growing group of Cubans from diverse origins, not related in any way except for the blog itself. We can either agree or disagree about the different issues that concern us as citizens of this wonderful country, but we share one of the most important gifts that people can possess: love for our land and the genuine will and desire to make it a better place.

We are committed to keep the place going, although that could mean that bloggers could go in and out. We are hoping to achieve regular and steady posts, but that could also change, depending on our availability at any given moment, and the availability of resources to write and post. We're mostly referring to availability of Internet and/or email access.

As stated above, the blog is mainly about our lives in Cuba, from our perspective. It is not intended as a political discussion board, debating about the good and bad things of our society. Talking about our daily experiences will inevitably make us touch political, cultural and social issues though, and we won't avoid it - but we want to make it clear that the intention of this web site is not to become a political place, but rather to reflect our cultural and social reality as seen through Cuban eyes and expressed through Cuban words. Keep this in mind when posting comments, as they are moderated, and any aggressive, intolerant or vitriolic comments will not make it past our moderation board (which consists of a guy sitting in his basement).

We love feedback, so feel free to contact us, with any questions, comments, suggestions, or criticisms you might have. You can also start to get to know us by reading our archives. Perhaps that question you are thinking right now is already covered in one of our stories.

Best regards,

The AhoraCuba! team
